PROMISES

“I had many incidents growing up where I had to miss school. I was in the system and had to live in a foster home a few times in my life. I made a promise to myself that now that I am an adult, I will be the one that has control of how I do in school. I told myself that I was going to strive to have perfect attendance. I am in my sixth mod and I've had perfect attendance and honor roll since I started. I was chosen as student of the month for May. Being in the mentor program has been an exciting process as well! I love knowing when I raise money and dedicate myself to this program, I am helping other students in need!

MY CAREER PATH

“I came from a life of horrible decisions and consequences. I wish I knew then what I know now because I would have made better decisions for my child's life, as well as, my own. I am slowly picking up the pieces to my life because up until this last year, I have been my own worst enemy. I made the decision to move from my original town to Bakersfield. Striving and craving success, I owe my child so much and am making it up to her in every way possible. I chose the medical assistant program because I know it would solidify my career path and give me something I can say I accomplished all on my own.”

GOOD PEOPLE

“My first day of school I was really nervous. I felt out of place thinking I might have signed up for the wrong program but our instructor Ms. Keys a good pep talk which kind of set me at ease. After completing the first week I was told I had a lot of potential to make it in the medical field, I just have to stick with it. To be honest, I have never had that much support in my life until I got to UEI. I have to say it feels real good having people support you, especially when it comes to school. It has been a great journey into this life changing choice for me. My favorite thing about UEI has to be the staff and instructors. The amount of support and kindness of everyone blew my mind. Another thing I enjoy about UEI is that it is changing my life for me and my son. He is only three years old, but I get a kick out of him calling me a doctor. Even though I am nowhere near that, it just motivates me more to finish and possibly further my education and career. Whether I win this contest or not I just love answering these questions. It makes me realize that there are good people on this planet that truly want to help people succeed. For me writing these for you is reassuring me that I am on the right path. Thank you UEI again and also thank you guys for the contest.”

FRIENDLY INSTRUCTOR

“I love my instructor Mrs. Rodriguez-Ferguson because she is the most amazing person and the best instructor anyone could have. There have been times where I wasn't doing so well in school and she did not let me fall. She would get on me and make sure I got back on track. She loves all her students the same and she doesn't treat anyone differently. She always makes sure that we are always doing everything correctly and does not let us mess around in class. I love how she cares about our future careers and if you're having a hard day, she will be there for you no matter what. I'm so grateful to have her as an instructor and a friend.”
